Should Darren Bent Stay?

He will score 25+ in the championship and his value will not diminish.
With the new TV deal, in 12 months time there will be a bucket load of cashed up clubs, and just as many managers with a large wad of cash burning a hole in the pocket.
Will these clubs who are massively in debt use this extra TV money to balance the books?
Of course not. They'll do what they've always done and blow most of it on overpaid players. The market value of all players will go through the roof simply because there is more money out there to spend on them.
Benty will be worth more on the open market in 12 months than he is now, regardless of which division he's scoring his goals in.
I say we keep him.
When we go back up at the end of next season, he will have the choice. But I suspect if there are no offers from the big4 he will stay. If any big4 club come calling, they will be offering more than they will now.
If we don't go back up, we will still get more cash than we would by selling him now.

Re: Should Darren Bent Stay? (Score: 1) by MarkieboyUK on Sunday, May 27 @ 11:34:51 BST (User Info | Send a Message) | I'd love him to stay, I think we all would, but in reality the guy has got to harbour dreams of being an England regular and the ideal platform to state his claim would be the Premier League.
David Nugent at Preston has however, proved that being in the Championship doesn't necessarily mean you'll be overlooked playing in the second tier.
If Pards could put his arm round him, tell him that he is desperate for him to stay and that if we aren't in the mix come January he wont stand in his way, I think that would be a good 'compromise'.
With Iwelumo and Varney signed he'd actually have people up front with him who would give him help on the scoring front, so we'd be some force in the Championship with the 3 of them at the club.
Maybe the loan deal with Arsenal that everyone is talking about would be a good idea, but there's always the chance Arsenal will 'tap up' Benty while he's there.
I just don't want him to go to Wet Sham or Spuds.. That would hurt like hell! |
